Road trips are especially nice now that the weather has cooled. Luckily, there are wonderful national parks nearby wherever you are in Canada, just waiting for you to come and explore while the weather is beautiful.

1. Start with a visit to Banff National Park. Moraine Lake’s piercing blue waters stand out in stark contrast to the rugged mountains. Larch trees lose their needles after turning a beautiful yellow colour.

2. Mont-Tremblant National Park is the place to experience Via Ferrata Mont-Tremblant. Known as a cross between hiking and climbing, this new spot is located on a rock wall and has built-in steps, bridges and handles.

3. Grasslands National Park in September – perfect for walking the park, seeing bison and watching migratory animals.

4. Pacific Rim National Park is full of wildlife. Camping is available until mid-October. Be prepared to see bear, wolves, cougars and more.

5. Kootenay National Park is a land of grizzlies and great hiking. Get rid of the chill of autumn by soaking in Radium Hot Springs.

6. Riding Mountain National Park is where elk, bison, wolves and bears live in protected areas. View them from your car along Highway 10, which meanders in the parkway.

7. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is famous for the Skyland Trail Footpath. See moose, mountains and sea, all in one walk around the island. The path takes about two hours.

8. To see stunning fall displays, visit Algonquin Provincial Park. It has several trails that will satisfy any leaf-lover’s desire. Try Booth’s Rock Trail for spectacular views.

9. Torngat Mountains National Park has great fall colours. Armed guides are required due to potential bear attacks in this wilderness.

10. La Mauricie National Park is breathtaking in the fall when the mosquitoes are gone. Canoe, see the waterfalls and hike.
